About Us
The Order of friars Minor Capuchin is a mendicant way of religious Order within the Catholic Church. It is one among the three “First Orders” of the Order of Friars Minor founded by St. Francis of Assisi. The Friars Minor Capuchins arose as a new reform from among the OFM Observants and OFM Conventual Friars in the year 1525. The purpose of the reform was to return to a more authentic observance of the rule written by St. Francis of Assisi in 1209.
The global statistics of the Capuchin Order today is over 140 circumscriptions-Provinces, Custodies and Delegations-having over 10,000 members.
In India the order was planted in the year 1922 on February 26, opening a Novitiate house (For initial Formation) in Sardhana-U.P. At present there are 12 provinces, 2 custodies and 6 delegations in India.
Pavanatma Province is a Capuchin Province erected in the Syro Malabar Rite in the Year 2009 on 3 December. The Provincialate is situated at Melechovva, Kannur, Kerala, India.
